Jesús Augusto Sarcos Romero: Matuszyck Introduced a New Order to Mineros
CARACAS.- Horacio
Matuszyck (Santa Fe, Argentina 1961) is one of the most important
attackers that have played in the country, and now, as coach, faces the
enormous task of turning football lead into gold. His skill to make matches
into organized endeavors, in which all factors come together seamlessly while
at the same time giving emphasis to attack strategies, was made evident with Trujillanos, and now resurfaces once
again with Mineros de Guayana and
their impressive start in the Apertura.
“The bar is set high with
Mineros, but we’ve come to establish a methodology and game idea that the
players have accepted, and their hard work is evident in the results,” said
Poland-born Matuszyck regarding the three victories the team has earned, first
against Lala (0-5), then against La
Guaira (2-1) and finally Lara
(1-0), as well as the draw match against Llaneros
de Guanare (3-3), all which have placed the team at the top spot, with a
10-point lead and a running start in the tournament.
Matuszyck kept the same team that
for the past two years has been aiming to reach first place, but imbued them
with more order when it comes to defense transitions and freedom of movement in
the rival’s area.
“We work with many attack alternatives.
Possession of the ball must have a defined intention, be it to counterattack
with speed or to get the space we need with a change of rhythm and
acceleration,” summarized the previous front man of the Boca Juniors and
Racing, back in Argentina.
This system resulted in a team in
which all players are “all-rounders when it comes to attack and defense”, which
means that all goals do not depend on Richard
Blanco alone anymore, but from many different sources.
“Modern football is integral, and
we have a mix of players that can all go on the attack when on the rival area,”
said Matuszyck.
Mineros’ brilliant start,
however, hasn’t made them cocky. “We need to take this on a match-by-match
basis, since the important thing is to place among the final eight, and then
plan a strategy for the final matches.”
Guayana has grown to believe in
Mineros again, since Matuszyck knows the language of winners.
