Jesus Augusto Sarcos Romero: FIFA Fines England and Uruguay For Not Wearing The Authorized Socks
RUSSIA.- This past Wednesday, FIFA placed a
120.000 Swiss Franc fine ($120,000) on the English and Uruguayan Football
Federations, after their team players wore unauthorized socks during their
respective World Cup matches.
The football authority informed the Uruguayan
Football Association (AUF) that it would have to pay 50.000 Swiss Francs
($50,300) due to a number of different issues, including challenging the
warnings made to a player, who wore a non-approved brand of socks on Friday’s
match against France.
“Only one member of the Uruguayan national team
kept displaying a non-approved commercial brand,” said FIFA, while adding that
Uruguay was also fined for “showing late at the stadium, which does against
World Cup set rules.”
The fine placed on the English Football
Association (“FA”) was considerably higher, at 70.000 Swiss Francs ($70,500),
as several players wore non-authorized brands during training and during
Saturday’s match against Sweden.
Even the Swedish team was fined 70.000 Swiss Francs
for their use of unauthorized socks.
